A customer finds your website.
They design their dream garden room. Pick the size, the cladding, the finish.
They’re excited. You’re excited.
Then you ask about budget.
£5,000.
The actual price? £18,780.
(Not a typo.)
This is the biggest problem in outdoor living sales. Not bad leads. Late pricing.
When people don’t know what things cost, they fill in the gap with what they hope things cost.
And hope is a terrible budgeting tool.
Here’s how to fix it.
Three ways to fix the pricing mismatch#
1. Put price ranges on your website#
Not exact prices. Ranges.
The easiest way is to introduce models: Basic, Premium, Luxury. With a starting price for each.
“Basic garden rooms typically start from £7,500.” “Premium garden rooms typically start from £15,000.” “Luxury garden rooms typically start from £30,000.”
That one change saves you hours every week.
The £5,000 budget people filter themselves out before they ever reach you.
2. Ask the budget question first#
Before you measure anything. Before you open a drawing.
Say this:
“Just so I can point you in the right direction, most projects like this land between £15,000 and £25,000. Does that roughly match what you had in mind?”
If yes, keep going.
If no, you just saved yourself an hour.
3. Let your 3D configurator do the filtering#
Use a 3D configurator to guide people toward the right pergola for their budget from the very first click.
Here’s how it works in practice:
No awkward budget conversation needed. The customer self-selects. You only talk to people who already know what they can afford.
April is here and lead volume is about to spike.
Every mismatched quote you cut now is an hour you get back when it matters most.
Don’t let customers fall in love with something they can’t afford.
Show them the number before you show them the dream.
Want your configurator to do this filtering automatically? Book a call and we will show you how.
