When you send out a quote, what are you actually sending?
A product breakdown and a price?
Yes, I know.. That is the definition of a quote.
But in the outdoor living industry, this is just not enough to convince a customer to buy.
They are buying a £15,000 pergola. Or a £25,000 garden room. They need to feel comfortable with that decision before they say yes.
We ran a few experiments with our customers.
We included a lot more information in the quote. The quote email got long. Really long.
And the prospects started to respond more, not less.
What we added to the quote#
Here is what we included alongside the quote:
- Testimonials and photo references. People want to see that others have already chosen you and are happy. Real customer stories go a long way.
- Financing options. If you offer any kind of payment plan, explain how it works. A £25,000 garden room feels a lot more accessible when they know they can spread it.
- The installation process. What happens after they say yes? How long does it take? Who shows up? What do they need to prepare?
- What is included and what is not. No surprises later. Be upfront about what is in the quote and what they might need to handle separately: groundwork, permits, electrical.
- Planning permission. If it applies to your product, explain it clearly. Uncertainty kills decisions.
- The benefits of your product. They already chose to inquire. Remind them why your product is the right choice. Materials, warranty, durability, design.
- Your most common FAQs. Answer the questions before they have to ask them.
Give them everything they need to decide. The easier you make the decision, the faster they say yes.

The era of PDF quotes with just a product and a price is coming to an end.
